Documentary style family photography

Documentary style family photography has my whole heart. Hands down. No contest. I pretty much live for it.

Know what else I love? Photographing other photographers. It may come as a surprise to some of you, but other photographers are some of my VERY BEST clients! I could go on and on about the reasons why, but the one reason at the top of my list is that they tend to place a lot of VALUE in art and photography! They get it. They can look at an image and see so much more than just a picture. Now I’m not saying that only photographers “get it”. Many others resonate with and value what I do, and you people are my people! I’m just saying that more often than not, photographers tend to value photography. And there’s nothing I enjoy more than being able to give someone something I know they will truly cherish.

Sydney’s in-home motherhood session

As you scroll through some highlights from this session, look for the stories and the connection. The messes and the details. The little everyday moments that mean everything. These are what I call “Walking Between Mountains”.

If I had to choose a favorite image from this session, I think it would have to be the larger black and white one above. When planning Sydney’s motherhood session, she said she hoped to capture Piper’s love for horses and ballet. I feel like this photo does just that, while at the same time showcasing the very beautiful bond this mother and daughter share. I think of this image as a portal into the season of life they are in. One that they will look at years from now, and remember the days of ballet, horses, and make believe.
