There’s nothing quite like a roadside adventure to capture and celebrate love and new beginnings. This family maternity session reinforced my belief that planning every detail can be overrated.
A last minute decision to meet, without a planned location, turned out to be absolutely perfect. We started out planning to photograph this session in Thibodaux Louisiana (where Emily and Doug live). Then we toyed around with the idea of changing the location to Mandeville (where I live), but ultimately, because of schedules and timing, we ended up shooting in Biloxi! The two of them were headed there for a little pre-baby getaway, and I was already going to be driving through the area the very same day.
I’d never photographed anywhere in Biloxi before, and was a little concerned since I didn’t know the area well. Luckily I spotted this gem of a location on my way to meet them. You’d never know we weren’t in Louisiana with the Spanish moss in the trees and the marshy grasslands. The light was perfect and a cool breeze was blowing in off the water. I couldn’t have asked for more.
Emily is such a radiant mama to be, and the love that she and Doug already have for their little one is already undeniable. Emily and Doug are expecting their first, a little girl, in a few short weeks and I am over the moon excited to meet, snuggle (and of course photograph) their sweet little Harper Grace!
