Tennessee documentary family photography

We recently started a new family tradition. We decided that from now on there will be an annual camping trip the week before school starts back up. This year I was so grateful to be able to meet up with some of my favorite people to do a documentary family photography session in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee!

As soon as they pulled into our campsite, it started pouring down rain. But I’m not complaining. Not only did it give us a chance to hang out and enjoy each others company for a while, once the rain stopped we were left with the most beautiful light and fog!

I had such a great time exploring the riverbed with these guys. Almost as much fun, I’d imagine, as Teak had throwing rocks into the water! I hope you enjoy the following images from their session.

As you can see, I have a thing with photographing hands. To me, there’s just something about them that tells a story in a way unlike anything else. What do you think? All I know for sure is that my obsession isn’t going away anytime soon!

I cannot wait until next fall when we can make it back to Tennessee again.
