Smoky Mountains Family Photography.

We started a tradition last year that is certain to become an annual thing. Right before school, we hop in the RV and drive out to Smoky Mountain National Park for a little last minute getaway. This was our second year making the trip, and we are already planning on returning next fall.

We discovered this gem of a campground called Elkmont, and I don’t think we will ever decide to stay anywhere else. It’s not only beautiful and pristine, but there is no cell service up there! It was seriously the best, most needed thing for our family. That little break from technology and the outside world was priceless. Plus, we slept with the windows open at night with the sound of the river rushing in the background…and it doesn’t get much better than that.

One day while the girls and I were out exploring the river, we came across this sweet family. Of course I had my camera in tow, and I was immediately inspired to document them. It was bizarre actually, how I was overcome with this feeling that I just HAD to photograph them. So I mustered up my courage and asked mom (whose name is Moriah I later learned) if she would mind if I took some photos of them. She gratefully accepted my offer.

When Moriah told me their story I fell even more in love. It turns out that this place is a very special one to their family, and they have been coming here for generations. I’m honored to have been able to document these moments for them, in this place they love so much.
