I love to start my family sessions off with a short walk. The concept of “walking” means so much to me that I even incorporated it into the name of my business! Though the literal act of physically walking together is wonderful in and of itself, the greater meaning, to me, is more about the idea of walking through life. It’s about slowing down and appreciating the every day and the moments we are in as we experience them.
From the southern charm of the majestic oak trees with their whimsical hanging moss to the sandy shoreline dotted with cypress. As a photographer, I couldn’t have been more smitten with our location choice of Fontainebleau State Park in Mandeville Louisiana.
There is a particular image here that was my favorite from this session from the moment I clicked the shutter, and that is a high compliment considering I absolutely love every single image of this family! Why do I love this particular photo so much? Because THIS my friends, is the season of life that they are in right now. This is real life with three kids under five! It was unprompted, unposed, glorious chaos. The fact that the baby is grabbing big sister’s hair bow while she almost knocks mom over with a leg hug around the knees…while dad tries to convince his son to smile but all he cares about is his shoe…it’s my idea of perfection.
My hope is that this post reaches the people who see as much beauty in the above image as I do. I hope it will encourage others to “let them be little” even (especially) during a family portrait session.
Authentic moments and genuine smiles. That is what photo sessions with me are all about. And the icing on the cake? Everyone has FUN!!! When DAD walks away saying how much fun he had during the session, then you know it was a success!
By the end of the evening, each and every one of us was wet, sandy, and smiling!
I wouldn’t have it any other way.
